* Notes: IA=Instructor approval required, DA=Department approval required
* Rsrvd: indicates the number of seats reserved during registration for various reasons (i.e., freshmen registration in the Fall, PBLCs, or major restrictions). Unused seats are released prior to the beginning of the semester.
* Avail: indicates the total number of seats open to all students. This number may be reduced by enrollments in other cross-listed class sections.
* Wait Cap: indicates the number of waitlist seats available for the class
* Wait Tot: indicates the number of students currently waitlisted for the class (allows departments to determine class demand and may result in opening of class additional sections)
* Sust: classes designated as Sustainability Focused (SF) or Sustainability Related (SR)
* Permanent Text Status: If the particular course is indicated as NONE, there are no required texts. If indicated as FREE, text materials are offered free to students.
* Bookstore Text Info: Link to Bookstore text details for all courses that potentially have required texts.

Generally, students must register in one section from each component type shown for a particular class. For example, BIOL 104 has two lecture sections and several lab sections. Students who register for one of the lecture sections must also register for one of the labs associated with that lecture. Association numbers and section numbers are shown in parenthesis when multiple values exist.

Class Notes
ANTH 307 Mesoamerican Archaeology41315Special Topic: Mesoamerican Archaeology - Explores the cultural history of Mesoamerica starting from the peopling of the Americas, followed by an in-depth exploration of the Olmec, Teotihuacano, Zapotec, Maya, Mixtec, Toltec and Aztec cultures. Discusses the impacts of colonialism and current Indigenous political activism and identity within contemporary Mesoamerica.
ANTH 329 Critical Archival Studies41550Special Topic - Critical Archival Studies: Anthropological Insights. Engages with archival studies via post-colonial theory and study of power in the historical record. The course reviews Humboldt¿s Special Collections, digital archaeology, tribal constitutions, and more.
ANTH 339 Comparative Osteology& Zooarch43782Special Topic: Comparative Osteology & Zooarchaeology - Survey vertebrate skeletal remains common in archaeological and forensic contexts, with an emphasis on human osteology to facilitate differentiation between human and nonhuman. Analyze faunal samples to identify taxa and explore the contributions of zooarchaeological research. Nonhuman materials will be real and replica. Human bones will be replicas. Optionally, work with real human bones.
ANTH 359 Soils and Society41552Special Topic: Soils and Society - Examine the vital role that soils play in shaping, sustaining, and sometimes undermining human societies. Draw on environmental archaeological perspectives to investigate how civilizations have depended on soil for housing, security, agriculture, water resources, clothing, etc. Analyze the roles of soil mismanagement and degradation on societal decline. Use case studies and interdisciplinary analysis to explore how land-use decisions and cultural practices have intersected with environmental change and how these dynamics are revealed through soil evidence.
ANTH 390 Textiles Through the Ages43789Special Topic: Textiles Through the Ages - Study the technology, prehistory and history, and culture(s) of textiles and how they influence individuals and societies today and of the past, with a focus on Europe and the Mediterranean. Explore how textiles intersect with many aspects of culture, in particular trade and gender expression. Explore the importance of textiles through lecture, discussion, readings, and hands-on components. Through experimental archaeology, experience how the peoples of the past produced textiles and better understand the evidence left in the archaeological record.
ANTH 485 Data Visualization41615Special Topic: Data Visualization - Provides hands-on instruction on how to visually represent data across the anthropological subfields. Students will produce figures using their own datasets or a provided set. The figures produced and skills learned can be used for papers, presentations, theses, conferences, publication, or in future career endeavors.
ANTH 680 Teaching Anthropology41027Special Topic: Teaching Anthropology - Overview of teaching anthropology in post-secondary institutions. Topics include the fundamentals of course design, utilizing Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas), syllabus development, pedagogical approaches, effective online and face-to-face strategies, practical applications of anthropological theory and content, and how to prepare for different types of teaching careers. Students will produce syllabi, design learning materials, and deliver short lectures.
